Project Kaleidoscope has begun!
About 3 months ago, I purchased a DVD which detailed how to make a turned wooden kaleidoscope. After viewing the DVD, I purchased the detailed plans from Jim Duxbury of Elegant Creations. Both the DVD and the plans are excellently done, and inspired me to start the kaleidoscope project.
After taking some very detailed notes after watching the DVD, and collecting items needed for project, we are ready to start. The wooden blanks that are needed to form the 3 major components of the kaleidoscope will need to be glued up first, and then cut to specifications, before being turned to the exact dimensions needed for the hardware to work. Over the next few weekends, we will be gluing up numerous blanks, as our goal is to make several of the completed kaleidoscopes for lucky family members by Christmas.
I will post images and give status updates along our kaleidoscope journey. My woodworking mentor, Don Russell along with Johnathon Pendley will be working on these kaleidoscopes, so you should see some very interesting segmented patterns emerge for our kaleidoscope bodies. We do not usually do plain and simple!
